the black google: it's blackle

Its here!!! The energy saving google is here...and it is called Blackle. Cute. Anyway, when your screen is white, be it an empty word page, or the Google page, your computer consumes 74 watts, and when its black it consumes only 59 watts. Since Google has such a huge number of page views, 750 mega watts/hour per year would be saved--switch damn it.

You might want to note that blackle is just the homepage of, which has offered web search in different colors since a much longer time. In general, all dark backgrounds on light text are energy saving-less illumination of the CRT-less pixel activation.

My favorite on is the white background with green links-although not energy saving-it is really better for the eyes.

I find the other version is more easier to read since they uses green text just like the old days. Green text are more easy for our eyes and reduce eye strain.

I prefer using as their text are green which reduce eye strain. So instead of saving energy from our monitor, it also save our user's eye energy.
