animal, vegetable miracle: barbara kingsolver

In the book, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver, she investigates how her family has changed in one year by eating locally. Barbara opens your eyes to the addage: You are what you eat. The book chronicles her family's rural life in which they buy only food raised in their own neighborhood, grow it themselves, or learn to live without it. Kingsolver makes a passionate case for making meals and the kitchen central to family life while supporting diversified farming practices.

"This is the story of a year in which we made every attempt to feed ourselves animals and vegetables whose provenance we really knew . . . and of how our family was changed by our first year of deliberately eating food produced from the same place where we worked, went to school, loved our neighbors, drank the water, and breathed the air."

I absolutely loved reading this book. It is so inspirational and well written.

There's a book club starting online at www.green.apartmenttherapy.com, I'm thinking of joining it!
