la tessitura: no waste design lab & concept store

La Tessitura in Como Italy, is a new commitment of 100 year old silk company Mantero Seta Spa to promote ethical and environmentally friendly fabric products. The giant store and cafe is a treat for textile enthusiasts, offering exquisite salvaged fabrics and collections from designers who's fabrics are licensed by Mantero (Kenzo, Viktor & Rolf). La Tessitura offers many objects and accessories that are made from post consumer textile products thought up by young international designers. Mantero has also figured out a way to shred some of the misprinted licensed fabric and recombine it with wool to make their signature 'Resilk'. This new sustainable hybrid fabric is softer than traditional felt but can still be laser cut, dyed and molded. The gallery at La Tessitura showcases artists who reuse materials in their projects. Mantero also hosts the Mantero Young Art Award, a competition that challenges artists younger than 35 to create a fantastic original object from 3 meters of their fabric.
